Good game from Nolan today...
Didn't give the ball away much (never had it)

Didn't lose out on many tackles (not close enough to make any)

None of his shots off target (didn't have any)

Covered every blade of grass (slowly)

Could have popped up with a goal (as could anyone else on the field)

A+

I would say that keeping the ball, trying to draw opposition players out of position, being patient in possession, not lumping it forward or trying to play a killer ball too early is pretty constructive

I'm sure the £55k a week helps with his feeling inadequate.

I remember when we got to a high division when we were kids, lot of the other kids were playing for pro clubs, and I was pretty shit, we were at the bottom of the table.

I fucking hated it, coming off the pitch knowing i was shit.

I wonder if Nolan feels the same?

I don't think they are pointless. Downing was the most creative midfielder in the country for a period this season. That was vital in our rise up the table.

He's not doing that anymore. The bloke playing there instead while Downing floats around is not creating any chances.

Selecting Nolan means we effectively start with ten players. He is slow, passes to the opposition as often, if not more often, than he passes to his own team. Would love someone to step in and sign him today, doubt it would be a premiership club though.

Monk, I hate to DIG you out, but that is very poor on your part.

BetterthanKaka, that's a bit unfair on Monk. It's a thyroid problem.

Re: Good game from Nolan today...
It just shows what we've all known for a very long time.

Nolan's level of involvement in games, both home and away, is nowhere near what it should be for a midfielder.

Yes, you could argue that many of Noble's passes were safe, short passes, but that still shows he's involved, keeping possession. Which is the type of player he is.

Nolan is nothing.

A lot of these stats are fairly pointless and I don't recall Noble doing too much constructively when he came on. A lot of his passes are short back and forths with defenders.

However, the Nolan 29 touches (or whatever) is pretty scandalous. Not that I really know what constitutes a touch (if you control and pass is it two?) but even so over 90 minutes it is nowhere near earning a wage is it?

Buster 11:09 Mon Feb 2
Re: Good game from Nolan today...
Noble had the same number of touches in 35 minutes than Nolan did in 90.

Fucking hell.

Eddie B 11:08 Mon Feb 2
Re: Good game from Nolan today...
I-Ron, apparently Nolan made 6 successful passes in 90 mins, Mark Noble made 16 in 35 mins.

Re: Good game from Nolan today...
He was a bit in and out when Allardyce was first shoe-horning him back in the team...

BUT isn't funny how he has been a 90 minute regular every game since Sullivan Jnr done the tweety thing about him after the Everton game?

Myself and a few others said that would be the case.

I found it pretty depressing seeing Carroll pushed out wide left when a goal down. Classic BFS though!

Re: Good game from Nolan today...
I still can't get over 6 completed passes in one whole game for a midfielder.

I'd love to see if that's one of the worst stats since the premiership started for lack of involvement.

In the club or around the club?

Was at a function today hosted by ex-West Ham players.

Views expressed were very anti-Allardyce which shocked me and looking at eyes of those standing behind the person expressing them, it was clear that the views were held by others around tthe club.

Until today, I'd been expecting another year to be given to him, but looks like club is just playing out his contract now.

BTW - I dont want to name those ex-players, as I dont want their names being dragged into this

All leagues have stepped up and it wouldn't surprise met if he would struggle in the Championship too. Surely as an experienced professional footballer who can read the game, knows that he is well off the pace. It must be so embarrassing for him knowing he no longer has the legs. I do feel sorry for him in that respect.

However, he is stunting our growth as a football club as we are continuously playing with ten men whenever he features and as D3 has said, the goals have dried up so he offers very little.
